Half-Blood by Jennifer L.Armentrout
Publisher : Spencer Hill Press
The Hematoi descend from
the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two
Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and
mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become
trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the
homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her
life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up
slumming it anyway. There are several rules
that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them
all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are
forbidden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is.
Many bloggers were gushing over this book. I was skeptical at first, but Half-Blood does NOT disappoint. Lots of action, romance, mystery, excitement and pure awesomeness. The first chapter itself had lots of action and makes you wanna read on and on.
The story is told from Alexandria's/Alex point of view. Alex is a half-blood and recently ran away from the Covenant which is a total no-no, but she didn't really have a choice. Now, she's back and her life takes a 360° spin. A forbidden romance sprouts between Alex and Aiden, a super-hot pure Sentinel/trainer. At age 17, she's rediscovering her identity and somehow got more than she bargained for.
Every chapter was exciting, there's nothing that's boring in this book. The story was set in a neat supernatural world. Details ware given, but not too much, till it sounded like a snippet from a dictionary. I admit there's a bit too much that's similar to Vampire Academy and it did make reading Half-Blood a little less fun.
No matter what, this story was written beautifully and with style. Not every author can make a hit with their debut but this one did. Plus, there's a mini pronunciation guide which before you venture into the world of half-bloods and many other beings. If this is what Jennifer L. Armentrout has to offer for her debut, I simply cannot wait to read the next one in the Covenant series, Pure.

Why do I love this book so much? The tale of a feisty kick butt gal getting dragged back to somewhere she doesn't want to be, weaved in with fighting, sarcastic comments, and a girl who doesn't put up with anybody else's crap. Yeah, totally grabbed me. Ms. Armentrout blew me away with her creativity of the world she created, the characters, and the heart- racing plot line.
