Claudia Emerson has a
good friend who shares the same first name and last name. That friend
unfortunately dies in a tragic accident during homecoming dance. Claudia
is distraught at the loss of her friend, but is even more disturbed by
her dreams, which seem to take her to another place called Crossroads.
Unknown to her, Crossroads is like a second heaven, a place between
heaven and earth. It is where the souls of humans in comas or near death
experiences may wander. Where, Claudia meets Michael, a nephilim, a
half angel, half human, whom she often meets in her dreams. It turns out
that this isn’t her first visit to Crossroads, which is an enigma for
no human can ever travel there until Claudia.
Where do I start? This story is told from Claudia's point of view. Claudia Emerson, average single-parent girl often dreams about a heavenly place called Crossroads. One day, she finds out that her sort of former best-friend-who-has-the-same-name dies. I didn't really understand what this has to do with the story, perhaps to add more sadness?
Claudia's odd dreams frequent and soon changes everything. She also gets a sweet forbidden romance with Michael, an alkin, a super-sweet one. There was small hints on a love triangle, which I'm giving full support!
Ting weaved extremely sweet and heavenly {no pun intended} words, especially through Michael's character. There was always important love/life lessons every 2-3 chapters. Crossroads also has a bit of danger, action and mystery. The plot twists and turns at a natural pace. I kept expecting more drama, the betrayal kind.
Lots of details were given, especially at chapter 25. Given that Ting actually went through it gave it a "real" feel to it. Even though Crossroads was filled with death, somehow it remained bright and had a light and fuzzy feeling to it. I feel that the story is a bit too short and could have used more danger to weigh it down. However, when I read the sneak peek to Between I'm pretty sure the second book will have more of it. With that said, I cannot wait for the sequel, Between.
